    Julia Rutherford Silvers, CSEP

    Certified Special Events Professional

    Event Management Authority

Like angels and elephants dancing on the head of a pin, our dreams and responsibilities may have no limits, but must be balanced according to the music of the moment.

Author of the highly acclaimed books Professional Event Coordination and Risk Management for Meetings and Events, and a four-time ISES Esprit Award winner for Best Industry Contribution for her educational programs, Julia taught Meeting & Event Risk Management and Meeting & Event Coordination topics for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Distance Learning and UNLV Singapore. She served on the Board of Governors and Certification Committee of the International Special Events Society and as Curriculum Consultant and lecturer for The George Washington University Event Management Certificate Program.

She designed and wrote the Event Management Training Program for South Africa's Tourism Learnership Project National Certificate in Tourism: Event Support, as well as numerous distance learning lectures, instructional videos, CD ROM lectures, books, and magazine articles on event management topics, and presented lectures all over the world on event management practices.

Julia led the Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) Project that supports an international endeavor to establish global process standards for the event industry, which was recognized by the International Special Events Society with the 2004 Esprit Award for Best Industry Contribution.

Julia started her career(s) at age 14 in the community theaters of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since then she had been a costume designer, melodrama and vaudeville performer, art history librarian, hand painted silk clothing designer, arts & crafts fair manager, and president & creative director of a special event design and production firm in Albuquerque.

Julia retired from public life after the death of her husband Larry in 2011. In 2013 she donated her entire library of event management books and research materials to the Julia Silvers Resources Centre at the Skills Village 2030 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
